During this online course we encourage you to visit our FORUM and connect with other participants. This is an important part of enriching your experience and learning more about what is happening elsewhere.
So let’s get going! Tell us a bit about yourself, where you are from, what is your experience in working with young people and the issue of racism.
This first module was full-packed with theoretical information, definitions, and material. It might take some time to digest.
To help yourself - and each other - navigate this new topic, try asking on the forum a question about something which is not clear for you, and answer at least one question from another participant.
At the end of this session, please consider our initial reflection and the rumour you found yourself dealing with. How would you start working on it in your own context (class / youth group / youth centre / sport club / …)?
Please describe the setting: is it a classroom? Is it a youth centre? How many children/kids? How old are they? Do they already have experience with the topics?
Then illustrate which activity you would use to spark a conversation about rumours, reflecting upon the opportunities that will make your work successful and the possible obstacles and risks.
Read your mates’ entries and give at least one feedback on obstacles and risks, offering constructive suggestions on how to overcome the latter.
During the previous session, we started reflecting about engaging young people in a discussion about the rumours they spread - or the ones they are suffering from.
Imagine you have started working with them on contrasting a specific rumour in your city or district: what would be other key actors to involve?
Present a rumour you want to counter and list the key actors to be involved in the process, dividing them into actors you already work with and those you still have no connection to.
Then comment at least one entry, trying to offer feedback on engaging specific actors.
Have you witnessed situations of discrimination or lived them yourself? How did you act in that moment? What could be done to avoid and reduce these situations in our communities? What international programmes or initiatives do you know or have taken part in?
To start with, please write down all aspects that make people different and unique. There are no good and bad answers. Just put as many ideas as you can (ex. eye colour)
How can we differ?
Take a moment and reflect on what are your learning needs when thinking about Digital Youth Work? What would you NEED to know, improve, discuss with others about? Please write down your answers.
