Using the Peace Education Handbook (https://ifm-sei.org/files/up/ifm-sei-peace-education-handbook_v11_web.pdf), select one activity and adapt it to your context.

Reflect on the following questions and take notes: and share them in the forum:

      • As some of the topics are sensitive, how would you create a safe space for the children/participants?
      • What needs to be adapted to fit your local context? What are the cultural or social elements that you may need to take care of?
      • What would you do if a conflict between participants arises during the activity?
      • Can this activity be used for a different age group? What would need to change?

1.When taking such a step or planning for volunteering, it’s the foremost duty to think about the safety of children/participants and all those who somehow show their willingness to stand by.So first step is to creat or form a group of such people who are courageous enough to guard them and one more thing is to assure the mental well-being as well.
2.Different societies have different values residing in same hometown and some of them with more power never get to any sort of agreement, so one should plan a complete set of thoughtful considerations such as diversity causing values, rituals ,beliefs, races, castes.
3.When it comes to the matter of conflicts, people don’t see anything while protesting against the opposite community or society, even in the matter of clothing and food preferences. So a person with good persuasive tactics should and who’s also appreciated by each participant should be involved in the matter and come to a most suitable decision which could get approval from all of them.
5.Yes, from children to old age people ,regardless of their race, caste and gender, these measures (to me) are applicable.

Educating people with the fact that everyone even our parents who gave birth to us have natures which are diverse can minimize the conflicts that are creating distance and bombarding the same culture and society with negative consequences..!

** As we have a sensitive situation, we need to choose a calm space with colorful decoration for children/participants, simple and safe furniture and youth who could protect and take care of them.
** In this context, we will depend on some help from experts and institutions to provide the perfect environment and conditions to care of the children/ participants.
** If a conflict happen between the participants, first I will talk with them individually to hear them and understand their points of view then I will gather them in meeting and facilitate a discussion to solve the conflict.
** Yes , this activity is valuable for all ages from children to olders what differs would be the situation, the conflict the way to solve it because of the level of awareness and culture in the different age groups.

*As some of the topics are sensitive, how would you create a safe space for the children/participants?
To create a safe space for the children/participants it should be or I say I must implement activities that are easy to dwell with that at the same time they will understand it meaningfully and as well as I will educate them in a slowly manner in order for them not to think the subject is complicated and sensitive to them.
*What needs to be adapted to fit your local context? What are the cultural or social elements that you may need to take care of?
It is depend on the situation but to adapt to fit my local context is that I will gather information or accurate data from the community in order for me to adjust that leads to fit my local context.
*What would you do if a conflict between participants arises during the activity?
First and foremost I need to be a soothsayer in everything that I planned for so that it will have a peace environment or place during the activity but if this will happen then I should stop the activity first and I will settle always the problem arises during the activity in order for the activity to continue and accomplish it.
*Can this activity be used for a different age group? What would need to change?

      1. I make children notice that they have rights of free speech. They need a place full of peace. Crayons, pencils, books and board games.

      2. Participants from different backgrounds must be perfect.

3.I am aware of the possibility of conflict between participants. I will talk to them individually first after talk both. We can figure it out with respect and kindness.

      4. This activity open for anyone, any age, gender, background is welcome.

-I give them some time to express their feelings and thoughts. It also reduces the affective filter and gives the participant sense of control.

What needs to be adapted to fit your local context? What are the cultural or social elements that you may need to take care of?
-Different people from all around the world are beneficial for our project. People are tending to build walls between other people. Various people are giving us lots of opportunity to meet and learn new knowledge.

What would you do if a conflict between participants arises during the activity?
-First, I let them speak and determine why this conlict begin and gives them a time to think their actions.

Can this activity be used for a different age group? What would need to change?
-In different age groups, we can add some songs and enjoyable activities especially for children.

The first part of any activity should be meeting, team building, warm-ups and social contract. Without these, any activity, even with people that know each other, fails to deliver

What needs to be adapted to fit your local context? What are the cultural or social elements that you may need to take care of?
Turkey is a very heterogenous country with many cultures and histories in it and with the political climate we are in right now, I would be updating the content/examples regularly.

What would you do if a conflict between participants arises during the activity?
The best thing you do is preventing it but the second best thing to do is to help it de-escalate. If the activity itself was about conflict and conflict transformation, I would use this example to make this a part of the mindfulness

Can this activity be used for a different age group? What would need to change?
      yes
