Personal and professional development is a very important part of everyone’s lives, because without development we are stuck, we don’t move foward, we stay in one place without any perspective what we can do. As all of us know, there is no bad time to develop ourselves. Every moment is a perfect moment to start or to continue. We always can gain something, sometimes we are not even aware that many things around us, have a big influence for our development. As Albert Einstein said „it’s crazy to do all the time the same things, and expect different results”, so let’s follow this motto, and let’s get out of our comfort zone, or our stucked place, or let’s just move on, to develop ourselves in the different fields of our lives, because we are worth it and that’s what humans are supposed to do.

4. PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Personal development is a process that is mainly based on managing yourself in order to acquire intellectual, social and professional skills using educational gains and opportunities offered by work.
Your development takes place throughout your life, and the quality of this process determines the quality of your life: who you become, what goals you set for yourself, where you find personal and professional satisfaction.

Motivation
Motivation is one of the most important buzzwords in personal development and goal achievement. It is a key area of your personal competence. Motivation is, most generally, a type of internal energy that initiates and sustains a certain behavior in order to achieve a desired goal. The well-known psychologist Abraham Maslow would say at this point that we are motivated until a given need is satisfied. Satisfaction (the attainment of a given goal) shifts our attention to other needs, which, ordered in a kind of hierarchy, constitute the area of our pursuit and self-realization. An inseparable element in professional development.

Communication
Effective communication is the art of conveying your thoughts effectively, precisely and unambiguously to the recipient of the message. It is also the art of correctly understanding the information sent from your interlocutor. The art of communication requires effort on the part of both the sender and the receiver of the message. The communication process is not always perfect, as evidenced by misinterpreted information, tension, embarrassment and a sense of misunderstanding. In order to be able to communicate fluently and effectively, while influencing personal success and supporting professional development, you need to understand what your message is (the message reflects what you are thinking), who your audience is, and how the audience hears perceives and interprets your message (verbal or written). Personal and professional development will be easier!

Leadership
It is an old view that the signs of leadership qualities are to be found in early childhood and that if you are not born to be a leader there is not much you can do to become one. Fortunately, this view is becoming less valid and modern approaches proclaim that through patience, perseverance and hard work on yourself you can become an effective leader. What’s more, among the key skills of the 21st century is precisely the ability to lead, create a vision for development and galvanise people into action. Who is an effective leader? It is certainly a person who cares about his or her personal development, constantly improving personal skills (self-awareness, i.e. self-understanding, stress management and creative problem-solving, as well as increasing one’s own knowledge) and interpersonal skills (the ability to find one’s way in interpersonal relationships by communicating effectively, motivating others and resolving conflicts).

 Self-realisation
Also known as self-realisation, it is the process of striving to fulfil one’s abilities, potential and talents. Each person understands this idea through their own prism of seeing the world. Your personal development is about discovering what the word self-realisation means to you. Professional development, on the other hand, will be a reflection of your aspirations for self-realisation and self-actualisation on a socio-professional basis.

Professional development is gaining new skills through continuing education and career training after entering the workforce. It can include taking classes or workshops, attending professional or industry conferences, or earning a certificate to expand your knowledge in your chosen field. Some companies offer in-house opportunities for professional development, such as training sessions or mentoring programs, but many professional development programs are done independently.

Why is Professional Development Important?

Professional development is important because it has the potential to open opportunities for career advancement, such as promotions. It can assist you in honing existing skills and in learning new ones.

It can also help you stand out in a pool of applicants; showing that you have completed professional development programs or additional industry certifications on your resume can go a long way in showing your expertise in your field.

Employees who show initiative in independent learning can signal to employers that you are open to new experiences and are enthusiastic about continuing to grow.

Benefits of Professional Development for Employers

Professional development can be instrumental in growing a stronger team.

Employers who encourage their employees to seek out professional development opportunities are in turn encouraging higher productivity and job satisfaction.
